Ashvale Wanderers
Ashvale Wanderers surprised me. On the surface it's a touch-friendly turn-based RPG, but the writing is doing a lot of quiet work. Your party of four misfits moves across a hand-drawn map, and most of the game is the back-and-forth of combat and the small conversations between towns.
The battle system uses a timeline you can read at a glance, so you always know who acts next and can plan around it. Skills cost a shared stamina pool instead of per-character mana, which pushed me to think about the whole party rather than spamming one hero. It runs fine on an older phone and the fights never drag.
What stuck with me was the tone. Nobody in Ashvale is a chosen one; they're just tired people trying to get through. That restraint makes the few big moments land harder. If you want a story-driven RPG you can play in short sittings, this is an easy recommendation.

- Readable timeline combat
- Shared stamina system that rewards planning
